Post Code: LL55 1SH
Current Position: Senior Project Engineer
NEC Experience: A470 Gelligemlyn. £6.7m 2012 – 2014.
Supervisor on a two year contract to upgrade a substandard section of the A470 to single 7.8m wide carriageway over a 2km length. Responsible for up to four members of staff (2 x supervision, geotechnical & environmental). All the works were carried out within the Snowdonia national Park, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). During construction a major problem arose, once the toe of a rock cutting had been reached, a band of clay was exposed. A geotechnical inspection confirmed my concerns that the face of the rock cutting was potentially unstable, this was borne out by a large rock fall. A survey and design required the installation of ten 7.5m long ground anchors supplemented by thirty six rock bolts within the 25m deep rock cutting.

A548 Foryd Bridge (East Abutment) Reconstruction. £2.05m 2014 – 2015.
Supervisor working on the reconstruction of a failing abutment of an Art Deco designed listed bridge located to the west of Rhyl (Denbighshire) and on the main coast road. The tidal working required the construction of a cofferdam prior to the installation of bored pile foundations, new abutments and deck. A 26 day road closure was implemented for the removal of the existing bridge deck, completion of the new abutments, placing pre-cast beams, constructing a new deck and road surface. 24/7 working was carried out during this period.

Plas Heli – Welsh National Sailing Academy, Pwllheli. £4.9m 2015
Supervisor called in to oversee the completion of the external works, but also supervised the internal works. Plas Heli is a prestigious building designed to hold international sailing events as well as provide instruction and recreational facilities to visitors.

Tal-y-Bont Flood Alleviation Scheme, Bangor. £878k 2016
Supervisor on a 16 week scheme to prevent the flooding of the village of Tal-y-Bont and the A55 North Wales Coast Road (both of which have flooded three times in the last twenty years). The works required the temporary diversion of a stream, construction of two intake and two outfall structures, 260m of open ditch, 390m of 1.05m to 1.8m diameter pipe and three road crossings. Due to working within a stream and adjacent to the Afon Ogwen (SSSI), close liaison was required with Natural Resources Wales throughout the scheme.

A55(T) J15 to J18 – A total of three improvement schemes totalling £6.35m 2015 to 2017
Supervisor or PM for improvements to street lighting and signage, fire main upgrading within the Conwy, Penmaenbach & Pen y Clip road tunnels, emergency cross-over installations (2 no.), demolition and re-erection of overhead gantries, re-surfacing works and new ducting infrastructure for street lighting and communications.
